When looking at the CAE vocabulary list, spend more time on 'Topic' than on 'Purpose'. You will only need to learn the words and phrases in 'Purpose' as they will not appear in the test. More important is to focus on vocabulary which will act as a general knowledge base for the test. To assist you with this I created a cheat sheet which you can download here: http://bit.ly/22DOnrE
'Purpose' To express a wish in good English and to demonstrate your understanding of the English language. They are not about grammar or vocabulary -- although grammatical and vocabulary errors can show that you do not understand the language. For learners who have some English, it is likely that they will have some knowledge of the vocabulary used in the CAE exam. But you also need to be able to know advanced words and phrases which will be needed to understand the type of writing that is often used in the exam.
The most common CAE dictionaries are the Oxford dictionary or the CAE exam dictionary which is based on the Oxford dictionary. The CAE dictionary is divided into two parts. The first part contains a vocabulary list of 1,994 words and the second part is a thesaurus. The synonyms and part of speech are not shown (but you do know them from studying the Oxford dictionary), so they are used for reference purposes, not the test. d2c66b5586
